Our Initial plan was to Kayak the Verde river with AZ River Runners. Forecasts suggested that the flow would have calmed down by the time we got there but it was still flowing over 1000gpm (normal is 250gpm) That combined with the ~40 degree water coursing from the snow melting hills – it’d be better to go enjoy a calm lake and we did – much better. See you next time Verde River! A stop through Prescott for lunch and a taste from Granite Mountain. Black Cow Milk Stout FTW. I think this speaks for itself. Yep we’re the goofballs with kayaks who decided to trek up through the Bradshaws above Prescott with Kayaks on the roof in a “passenger car” The road started off good enough but got pretty mud-slop-snowy toward the top of the mountains A few dicey moments proved the intelligence of Subaru’s X-mode – I was seriously impressed. Leverages the CVT and traction control system/braking to give you controlled descent – and a very steady footing wherever you end up. We had to hike the last mile or 2 to the top. This is Mt. Union, the highest peak in Yavapai County. The tall trees on top obscure the views a bit, but there are beautiful vistas where you can see through.
